Katherine Yang (1998) is an artist and illustrator based in Taipei and New York City.

“Since childhood, I’ve struggled with obsessive negative thoughts and experiences, and my work visually represents these ruminations through repetitive characters and patterns. Each repeated element mirrors cycles of emotion, attachment, and self-reflection, offering both a meditative process for myself and an immersive experience for the viewer.

My art explores the complexities of relationships, emotional attachments, and introspection—capturing the way we navigate love, loss, and personal growth. Like an intricate tapestry, human connections are often woven with contradictions: clarity and confusion, longing and detachment, control and surrender. I find that relationships act as mirrors, sometimes reflecting truth, other times distorting our sense of self. Through my work, I ask: How much of myself do I lose in others? Where do I begin, and where do they end?

The repetitive nature of my illustrations serves as a coping mechanism, creating a sense of order and predictability in an otherwise chaotic emotional landscape. Each motif helps me process anxiety, uncertainty, and attachment, transforming emotional fixation into a structured, visual rhythm.

At its core, my work is an ongoing conversation between obsession and resolution, fixation and release. I invite viewers to engage with these intricate compositions, allowing them to recognize their own emotional loops and cycles. Through this process, my art becomes more than just a reflection of my experiences—it becomes a shared space for introspection, healing, and self-discovery.”
